Target Information

CD47 (integrin-associated protein, IAP) is a cell surface transmembrane glycoprotein that interacts with integrins and regulates their functions. Engagement of CD47 modulates signaling pathways such as activation of heterotrimeric G proteins and increases intracellular calcium upon cell adhesion.
CD47 also serves as a receptor for thrombospondin’s C-terminal cell-binding domain and plays roles in membrane transport and signal transduction. It is broadly expressed across tissues, reduced on Rh erythrocytes, and acts as a ligand for CD172a (SIRP alpha), preventing phagocytosis of CD47-positive cells.
Additionally, the CD47-CD172a system influences cell migration, B cell adhesion, T cell activation, chondrocyte mechanotransduction, and neuronal development, particularly in synapse-rich regions of the brain and retina.
