Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. Purity >95% (by SDS-PAGE).
Target Information
Defensins are a family of microbicidal and cytotoxic peptides involved in host defense. They are abundant in neutrophil granules and epithelial surfaces of mucosal tissues such as intestine, respiratory tract, urinary tract, and vagina. Members of the defensin family share high sequence similarity and a conserved cysteine motif.
Defensin alpha 1 is located in neutrophil granules and contributes to phagocyte-mediated host defense. Several alpha defensin genes are clustered on chromosome 8. DEFA1 differs from DEFA3 by only one amino acid, and both genes exhibit copy number variation.
