The monoclonal antibody ICDCLS recognizes human, mouse, and rat Somatostatin. Somatostatin (growth hormone-inhibiting hormone, GHIH or somatotrophin release-inhibiting factor, SRIF) is a peptide hormone with two active forms (14 and 28 amino acids) produced by alternative cleavage of a single preproprotein. It is secreted by delta cells of the pancreas, hypothalamus, and intestine, regulating endocrine function, neurotransmission, and cell proliferation. It inhibits the release of secondary hormones such as insulin and glucagon.

This antibody can be used to identify medium-sized aspiny neurons in the striatum, cortex, and hippocampus. Somatostatin expression is present in pancreatic islet hyperplasia and tumors such as somatostatinomas.

Applications Reported: Suitable for microscopy and immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections.
Applications Tested: Validated for IHC with low pH antigen retrieval at ≤ 5 µg/mL. Optimal dilution should be determined experimentally.

eFluor® 660 is a replacement for Alexa Fluor® 647. It emits at 659 nm and is excited with a red laser (633 nm). Ensure instrument compatibility for detection.

Target Information

Somatostatin exists in 14 aa and 28 aa active forms produced by alternate cleavage of a single preproprotein. It is expressed throughout the body and inhibits secondary hormone release via high-affinity G-protein-coupled receptors. It regulates endocrine activity, neurotransmission, and cell proliferation in both normal and tumor cells.
