Target Information
FLT1 (VEGFR1) is a receptor tyrosine kinase that plays a critical role in angiogenesis. Active angiogenesis is involved in various pathological and physiological processes such as tumor progression, diabetic retinopathy, rheumatoid arthritis, and wound healing.
FLT1 may act as a negative regulator of embryonic angiogenesis by inhibiting excessive endothelial cell proliferation. In adults, it can promote endothelial cell proliferation, survival, and angiogenesis in a cell-type specific manner.
It promotes PGF-mediated proliferation of endothelial and certain cancer cells but not normal fibroblasts (in vitro). FLT1 has high affinity for VEGFA and relatively low kinase activity, possibly functioning as a negative regulator of VEGFA signaling by limiting free VEGFA availability.
