세포 내 위치 (Cellular Localization)
- Isoform 1: Secreted; can retrotranslocate from secretory compartments to cytosol upon cellular stress.
- Isoform 4: Cytoplasm; maintains cytoplasmic localization under stressed and unstressed conditions.
- Isoform 6: Cytoplasm; maintains cytoplasmic localization under stressed and unstressed conditions.

Secreted isoforms can retrotranslocate to cytosol upon stress (PubMed:17451556). Detected in perinuclear foci possibly representing aggresomes containing misfolded, ubiquitinated proteins.
Background
The protein encoded by this gene is a secreted chaperone that can also localize to the cytosol under certain stress conditions. It is implicated in cell death, tumor progression, and neurodegenerative disorders. Alternative splicing results in both coding and non-coding variants (RefSeq, May 2011).
