Background
CDC-like kinase 2 (CLK2) is a dual specificity protein kinase that phosphorylates serine/threonine and tyrosine-containing substrates. It regulates serine- and arginine-rich (SR) proteins of the spliceosomal complex, influencing alternative transcript splicing. Chromosomal translocations between CLK2 and PAFAH1B3 genes on chromosome 19 can produce a fusion protein. CLK2 is distinct from TELO2 (GeneID: 9894), which also shares the CLK2 alias but functions in telomere length regulation. A pseudogene exists on chromosome 7. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [RefSeq, Jun 2014]
