Product Specific Information

This monoclonal antibody specifically detects the unconjugated (~17 kDa) form of SUMO-1/GMP-1 and proteins covalently ligated to GMP-1 (e.g., RanGAP-1).
Lysates tested: Rat liver nuclear envelopes, total lysates from NIH 3T3 and HeLa cells.

Target Information

SUMO1 is an ubiquitin-like protein that can be covalently attached to proteins as a monomer or lysine-linked polymer.
Attachment requires activation by the E1 complex (SAE1-SAE2), linkage to E2 enzyme (UBE2I), and can be promoted by E3 ligases (PIAS1–4, RANBP2, CBX4).
SUMO1 modification regulates nuclear transport, DNA replication and repair, mitosis, and signal transduction.
It targets RANGAP1 to the nuclear pore complex protein RANBP2, and polymeric SUMO1 chains can be polyubiquitinated for proteasomal degradation.
SUMO1 may also regulate gene networks involved in palate development, and mutations can cause non-syndromic orofacial cleft 10.
