Target Information
Zyxin is involved in focal adhesions, which are actin-rich structures that enable cells to adhere to the extracellular matrix and serve as sites for protein complexes involved in signal transduction. Zyxin is a zinc-binding phosphoprotein concentrated at focal adhesions and along the actin cytoskeleton. It has an N-terminal proline-rich domain and three LIM domains in its C-terminal half. The proline-rich domain may interact with SH3 domains of signal transduction proteins, while the LIM domains are likely involved in protein-protein binding. Zyxin may act as a messenger in adhesion-stimulated gene expression pathways and modulate actin bundle organization. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
