Target Information
The OPRM1 gene encodes the mu opioid receptor, the primary site of action for commonly used opioids such as morphine, heroin, fentanyl, and methadone. It also binds endogenous opioid peptides including beta-endorphin and enkephalins. The OPRM1 receptor belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor family, with three main types of opioid receptors identified: mu, kappa, and delta — each with distinct pharmacologic profiles.
