Target Information
DIABLO (Smac) is a mitochondrial protein involved in the activation of apoptosis by neutralizing members of the IAP (Inhibitor of Apoptosis Proteins) family. During apoptotic signaling, Smac exits the mitochondria and enters the cytosol, promoting cell death pathways.
Mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis is essential for development and tissue homeostasis, and its dysregulation is linked to various cancers. Smac/DIABLO also plays a role in sensitizing cancer cells to immune- or drug-induced apoptosis.
