Target Information

Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consisting of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits contain 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins.
The RPS19 gene encodes a ribosomal protein component of the 40S subunit, belonging to the S19E family, and is located in the cytoplasm.
Mutations in RPS19 cause Diamond-Blackfan anemia, characterized by reduced erythroid precursors, suggesting possible extra-ribosomal functions in erythropoietic differentiation and proliferation.
Higher expression levels have been observed in primary colon carcinomas compared to normal colon tissues.
Multiple processed pseudogenes of RPS19 are dispersed throughout the genome.
