Target Information

The KIDINS220 gene encodes a transmembrane protein predominantly expressed in the nervous system. It regulates neuronal survival, differentiation into axons and dendrites, and synaptic plasticity. The protein interacts with membrane receptors, cytosolic signaling components, and cytoskeletal proteins, acting as a scaffold for crosstalk between neurotrophin and other intracellular signaling pathways. Aberrant expression is linked to neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease. Mutations can cause a syndrome with spastic paraplegia, intellectual disability, nystagmus, and obesity. Alternative splicing generates multiple transcript variants.
