Target Information
Thymidine Phosphorylase (TP), also known as platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor (PD-ECGF) or gliostatin, catalyzes the reversible phosphorolytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine to their respective bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate. It is chemotactic and mitogenic for endothelial cells, acting as a non-heparin-binding angiogenic factor found in platelets. TP also participates in the activation of fluoropyrimidines, cytotoxic agents used in cancer treatment.
