The immunogen is a synthetic peptide derived from near the N-terminus of human beta-catenin.
Target Information
Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and epithelial layer formation. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin to anchor adhesion complexes to the actin cytoskeleton.
Beta-catenin also participates in signaling pathways including Wnt/Wingless and interacts with cytoskeletal complexes containing adenomatous polyposis coli protein and microtubules.
Its nuclear role includes co-activation of Lef/Tcf transcription factors, promoting transcription of genes such as cyclin D and c-myc, which drive cell proliferation.
Aberrant beta-catenin activity is associated with various cancers including colorectal, ovarian, breast, liver, lung, gastric, prostate, and skin tumors.
