Target Information
Protein Kinase C (PKC) isoforms are serine/threonine kinases involved in signal transduction pathways that regulate various physiological processes such as differentiation, proliferation, gene expression, brain function, membrane transport, and organization of cytoskeletal and extracellular matrix proteins.
PKC acts as a key regulator of cell cycle transitions, including entry, exit, and checkpoints (G1 and G2). Its regulatory effects vary depending on activation timing and isozyme type.
At least 12 PKC isoforms have been identified in humans: alpha, beta I, beta II, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, theta, iota, lambda, and mu.
PKC beta II is expressed in cardiac muscle, intestinal epithelium, kidney, and pancreas, and is involved in cell cycle progression and cancer proliferation.
