Target Information
Protein Kinase C (PKC) isoforms are serine/threonine kinases involved in signal transduction pathways that regulate differentiation, proliferation, gene expression, brain function, membrane transport, and cytoskeletal organization. PKC plays a key role in cell cycle transitions, including entry, exit, and G1/G2 checkpoints. PKC activation timing and isozyme specificity determine whether the regulation is positive or negative.
There are at least 12 PKC isoforms in humans (α, βI, βII, γ, δ, ε, ζ, η, θ, ι, λ, μ), differing in structure, localization, and tissue distribution. PKC βII is expressed in cardiac muscle, intestinal epithelium, kidney, and pancreas, and is implicated in cell cycle progression and cancer proliferation.
