LILRB3는 leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor (LIR) family에 속하며, 인간 염색체 19q13.4 영역에 위치한 유전자 클러스터 내에 존재합니다. 이 단백질은 B class LIR 수용체 하위군에 속하며, 2~4개의 세포외 immunoglobulin domain, transmembrane domain, 그리고 2~4개의 cytoplasmic immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs)를 포함합니다.
면역세포 표면에서 MHC class I 분자와 결합하여 음성 신호를 전달함으로써 면역 반응 자극을 억제하며, 염증 반응과 세포독성 조절을 통해 자가면역 반응을 제한하는 역할을 합니다.
다양한 isoform을 암호화하는 여러 전사체 변이도 보고되었습니다.
