The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

ADAMs (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain), also known as MDCs (metalloproteinase, disintegrin, and cysteine-rich domain) or cellular disintegrins, are a family of proteins expressed in numerous tissues. They participate in proteolysis, adhesion, fusion, and intracellular signaling.
ADAM23 is a membrane-anchored protein expressed exclusively in fetal and adult brain and may function as an integrin ligand in neural cells. The disintegrin-like domain of ADAM23 promotes adhesion of neuroblastoma and astrocytoma cells through interaction with αvβ3 integrin.
Unlike other metalloproteinases, ADAM23 lacks the three characteristic histidine residues and glutamic acid residue in its metalloproteinase-like domain, suggesting it may function primarily in cell adhesion rather than protease-mediated events. Evidence also suggests ADAM23 may act as a tumor suppressor gene.
