Product Specific Information

The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum using an epitope-specific immunogen. Purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

Guanylate cyclases belong to the adenylyl cyclase class-4/guanylyl cyclase family. There are two forms of guanylate cyclase: a soluble form (GCS or sGC), which acts as a receptor for nitric oxide, and a membrane-bound receptor form (GC), which serves as a peptide hormone receptor.

The GC-C protein consists of:

  • An extracellular domain
  • A single transmembrane domain
  • A cytoplasmic region with kinase-like and catalytic domains

It is expressed as two glycosylated forms:

  • 130 kDa precursor (endoplasmic reticulum)
  • 145 kDa mature form (plasma membrane)

Ligand binding to the extracellular domain of GC-C promotes cGMP accumulation. GC-C acts as the receptor for heat-stable enterotoxins from pathogenic E. coli, causing secretory diarrhea, and also binds guanylin and uroguanylin peptides that modulate renal function.
