Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
- The 20S core consists of 4 rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two α-rings and two β-rings).
- The 19S regulator includes a base (6 ATPase subunits and 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits).
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and are responsible for ATP/ubiquitin-dependent peptide cleavage in a non-lysosomal pathway.
The PSMD10 gene encodes a non-ATPase subunit of the 19S regulator, with two transcript variants producing different isoforms. Pseudogenes are identified on chromosomes 3 and 20.
