Target Information
TRPM8 is a receptor-activated non-selective cation channel involved in the detection of coolness, activated by cold temperatures below 25°C. It responds to icilin, eucalyptol, menthol, and intracellular pH modulation, mediating menthol sensation. TRPM8 is permeable to monovalent cations (Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺) and divalent cations (Ca²⁺). Expression is mainly restricted to prostate epithelial cells, with elevated levels in prostate cancer. TRPM8 mRNA is also found in certain nonprostatic tumors (breast, colon, lung, skin), but rarely detected in corresponding normal tissues.
