Description:
The MAR1-5A3 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse IFN alpha/beta receptor subunit 1 (IFNAR-1). The type I IFN receptor subunit 1 is co-expressed with IFNAR-2 on nearly all cells, forming a heterodimeric receptor complex that binds to all type I IFNs (IFN alpha and IFN beta). Type I IFNs are structurally and functionally related proteins with antiviral, antiparasitic, and antiproliferative activities.

Applications Reported:
The MAR1-5A3 antibody has been reported for use in neutralization of IFNAR1 bioactivity.

Applications Tested:
Functional Grade Purified MAR1-5A3 antibody has been tested by LAL assay to verify low endotoxin levels and by bioassay for neutralization of mouse IFNAR-1 bioactivity.
At 0.04 µg/mL, MAR1-5A3 inhibits by 50% the biological effects of 0.5 ng/mL mouse IFN-α2 (ND50) in an EMCV assay of L929 cell protection.

Target Information

Interferons are widely used therapeutic agents due to their antitumor and antiviral effects and their modulatory effects on the immune system (Biron, 2001; Kirkwood, 2002). These cytokines act by binding to the Type I Interferon Receptor (IFNAR1). Downregulation of this receptor influences the magnitude and duration of cytokine signaling and is thought to be regulated by phosphorylation of Serine 535 and 539 in IFNAR1 (Kumar et al., 2003).
