Product Specific Information

This H5C6 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD63, a type III member of the tetraspanin family of transmembrane proteins. CD63 is expressed intracellularly on lysosomes, endosomes, and granules of resting platelets and basophils. Cell surface expression is detectable on activated basophils, platelets, monocytes, macrophages, and granulocytes, as well as endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and smooth muscle cells.
CD63 associates with integrins (VLA-3 and VLA-6) and TIMP-1 to mediate allergic responses.

Target Information

CD63 (LAMP-3) is a glycoprotein of the tetraspanin family located in late endosomes, lysosomes, and secretory vesicles. It is also present on the plasma membrane following cell activation and serves as a basophil activation marker.
CD63 interacts with integrins, affects phagocytosis and cell migration, and regulates H/K-ATPase and ROMK1 channel trafficking. It also functions as a T-cell costimulation molecule and is useful for predicting carcinoma prognosis.
CD63 is expressed on activated platelets, monocytes, macrophages, and weakly on granulocytes, B, and T cells. It is identical to melanoma-associated antigen ME491 and platelet antigen PTLGP40.
Associated diseases include melanoma and Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome.
