Target Information
Thymidine Phosphorylase (TP), also known as platelet-derived endothelial growth factor (PD-ECGF) or gliostatin, catalyzes the reversible phospholytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine to their respective bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate in the presence of inorganic orthophosphate. It is chemotactic and mitogenic for endothelial cells and functions as a non-heparin-binding angiogenic factor present in platelets. TP/PD-ECGF also plays a role in the activation of fluoropyrimidines, cytotoxic agents used in cancer treatment.
