Target Information

Thymidine Phosphorylase, also known as platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor (PD-ECGF) or gliostatin, catalyzes the reversible phospholytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine to their corresponding bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate in the presence of inorganic orthophosphate. It is chemotactic and mitogenic for endothelial cells, functioning as a non-heparin-binding angiogenic factor found in platelets. Additionally, it plays a role in converting fluoropyrimidines—cytotoxic agents used in cancer treatment—into active metabolites.
