Target Information

Thymidine Phosphorylase, also known as platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor (PD-ECGF) or gliostatin, catalyzes the reversible phosphorolytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine to their corresponding bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate in the presence of inorganic orthophosphate.
It functions as both a chemotactic and mitogenic factor for endothelial cells and acts as a non-heparin binding angiogenic factor found in platelets.
Additionally, it plays a role in the transformation of fluoropyrimidines—cytotoxic agents used in cancer therapy—into active cytotoxic metabolites.
