Target Information
Thymidine Phosphorylase, also known as Platelet-Derived Endothelial Cell Growth Factor (PD-ECGF) or gliostatin, catalyzes the reversible phosphorolytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine to their corresponding bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate. It exhibits chemotactic and mitogenic activity for endothelial cells and functions as a non-heparin-binding angiogenic factor in platelets. Additionally, it participates in the activation of fluoropyrimidines, cytotoxic agents used in cancer therapy, converting them into active metabolites.
