Target Information
IRF8 (Interferon Regulatory Factor 8) is a transcriptional activator or repressor that binds to the upstream regulatory region of type I IFN and IFN-inducible MHC class I genes.
It plays a negative regulatory role in immune system cells and is involved in CD8+ dendritic cell differentiation through complex formation with the BATF-JUNB heterodimer.
This interaction leads to recognition of the AICE sequence, an immune-specific regulatory element, resulting in cooperative binding and gene activation.
Mutations in the IRF8 gene can lead to immunodeficiency 32A and 32B.
