Target Information
Septin 2 is a filament-forming cytoskeletal GTPase required for normal organization of the actin cytoskeleton. It plays a role in the formation of polarized columnar-shaped epithelium by maintaining polyglutamylated microtubules, facilitating vesicle transport, and preventing MAP4 binding to tubulin. Septin 2 is essential for mitotic progression, forming a scaffold at the midplane of the mitotic spindle to maintain CENPE localization at kinetochores and ensure chromosome congression. During anaphase, it is involved in chromosome segregation and spindle elongation. Additionally, Septin 2 contributes to ciliogenesis and collective cell movements.
