Target Information
RAB family members are small, RAS-related GTP-binding proteins that are key regulators of vesicular transport. Each RAB protein interacts with multiple proteins involved in exocytic and endocytic pathways. The RAB7 gene encodes a protein that regulates vesicle trafficking in late endosomes and from late endosomes to lysosomes. It also participates in cellular vacuolation induced by the VacA cytotoxin of Helicobacter pylori. Mutations in conserved residues of this gene are associated with certain forms of Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) type 2 neuropathies.
