Target Information

Cyclin E is a member of the highly conserved cyclin family, characterized by periodic changes in protein abundance through the cell cycle. Cyclins regulate CDK kinases, and each exhibits distinct expression and degradation patterns to coordinate mitotic events.
Cyclin E forms a complex with CDK2, essential for the G1/S transition. It accumulates at the G1–S boundary and is degraded during S phase. Overexpression has been linked to chromosomal instability and tumorigenesis.
Cyclin E interacts with and phosphorylates NPAT, a nuclear protein involved in histone gene expression and cell-cycle progression. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants produce distinct isoforms; additional variants have been reported.
