The eBioHMalpha5-1 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse and rat CD49e (integrin alpha5 or VLA-5A).
CD49e forms a receptor complex with CD29 (integrin beta1) known as VLA-5, which binds fibronectin and fibrinogen.
It is a type I, single-pass membrane protein (~135 kDa) expressed on thymocytes, mast cells, activated T cells, and splenic B cells.
VLA-5 contributes to T-cell co-stimulation and adhesion.
This antibody interferes with VLA-5-mediated cell adhesion and IgE-sensitized rat RBL cell degranulation on fibronectin-coated plates.
In vivo, HMalpha5-1 combined with anti-CD49d and anti-CD61 inhibits passive cutaneous anaphylaxis in mice.
Applications Reported: Flow cytometry and immunoprecipitation.
Applications Tested: Flow cytometric analysis of mouse bone marrow cells at ≤1 µg/test (100 µL final volume).
Optimal titration recommended for best assay performance.

Alpha chain 5 undergoes extracellular cleavage to form disulfide-linked light and heavy chains, joining with beta 1 to form a fibronectin receptor.
Integrins mediate adhesion and cell-surface signaling.
