Target Information
DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp, are putative RNA helicases involved in various cellular processes such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly.
Based on their distribution, some members are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cell growth and division.
This gene encodes a DEAD box protein homologous to VASA proteins in Drosophila and other species, specifically expressed in the germ cell lineage of both sexes and essential for germ cell development.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
