Target Information
DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp, are putative RNA helicases involved in RNA secondary structure modification processes such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly.
Some members of this family are implicated in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division.
This gene encodes a DEAD box protein homologous to VASA proteins in Drosophila and other species, specifically expressed in germ cell lineages of both sexes and essential for germ cell development.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
