This antibody reacts with human vimentin, a 57 kDa intermediate filament intracellular protein expressed in a wide variety of mesenchymal and mesodermal cell types.
This antibody does not cross-react with porcine or mouse proteins.
Target Information
Vimentin is a developmentally regulated intermediate filament protein (IFP) found in cells of mesenchymal origin. It is involved in the intracellular transport of proteins between the nucleus and plasma membrane.
During early cellular development, vimentin is co-expressed with desmin and later replaced by tissue-specific IFPs.
Vimentin also plays a role in steroid synthesis by facilitating cholesterol transport within mitochondria through cytoskeletal reorganization triggered by phosphorylation events.
