Product Specific Information
The IFNb/A1 clone recognizes natural human IFN-beta as well as recombinant IFN-beta1a and IFN-beta1b. It is capable of neutralizing IFN-beta activity.
Interferon beta is synthesized and secreted by fibroblasts and various other cell types in response to pathogens. Binding of IFN-beta to type I interferon receptors induces upregulation of IRF-7 and activation of RNase L. IRF-7 enhances IFN-beta production through positive feedback, while RNase L cleaves viral and cellular single-stranded mRNA, restricting viral replication and spread.

Target Information
Type I Interferons (IFN-alpha/beta) are primarily produced in response to viral infection by Natural IFN-producing cells (IPCs) as part of the host immune defense. IFNs can also inhibit tumor development. IFN-beta binding activates tyrosine kinases Jak1 and Tyk2, leading to phosphorylation of STAT transcription factors and subsequent gene expression associated with immune responses. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) also stimulate IFN-beta production. Clinically, IFN-beta is used in the treatment of tumors, infections, and multiple sclerosis.
