The cathepsin family of proteolytic enzymes includes several classes of proteases.
- Cysteine proteases: Cathepsins B, L, H, K, S, and O
- Aspartyl proteases: Cathepsins D and E
- Serine protease: Cathepsin G
Most cathepsins are lysosomal enzymes involved in peptide biosynthesis and protein degradation.
