MMP3 (stromelysin-1)는 peptidase M10A 하위계열에 속하며, pro-protein 형태로 분비되어 세포 외 단백질분해효소에 의해 활성화됩니다.
이 효소는 아연 및 칼슘 이온에 결합하며, metallo-endopeptidase 활성을 가지고 있습니다. 활성형 MMP3는 콜라겐, 젤라틴, 피브로넥틴, 라미닌 등을 분해하며, 상처 회복 및 조직 재형성 등 정상적인 세포 과정에 관여합니다.
유전자 변이는 관상동맥 질환과 관련될 수 있습니다.
