MMP3 (stromelysin-1)은 peptidase M10A 하위 패밀리에 속하며, 전구 단백질 형태로 분비되어 세포외 단백질분해효소에 의해 활성화됩니다.
활성형 효소는 아연 및 칼슘 이온과 결합할 수 있으며, 콜라겐, 젤라틴, 피브로넥틴, 라미닌 등을 분해하는 금속 엔도펩티다아제 활성을 가집니다.
MMP3는 상처 치유 및 조직 재형성과 같은 정상 세포 과정에 관여하며, 유전자 변이는 관상동맥 심장질환 6과 관련이 있습니다.
