MMP3 (stromelysin-1)은 peptidase M10A 하위계열에 속하며, 전구체 형태로 분비되어 세포외 단백질분해효소 절단에 의해 활성화됩니다. 이 효소는 아연 및 칼슘 이온에 결합할 수 있으며, 메탈로엔도펩티다아제 활성을 가집니다. 활성화된 효소는 콜라겐, 젤라틴, 피브로넥틴, 라미닌 등을 분해하며, 상처 치유 및 조직 재형성과 같은 정상 세포 과정에 관여합니다. MMP3 유전자 변이는 관상동맥 질환 6과 관련이 있습니다.
