Target Information
Fibronectin is a disulfide-bonded dimer with a molecular weight range of 230–250 kDa. In the extracellular matrix of connective tissues and vessels, fibronectin exists as an insoluble protein cross-linked by interchain disulfide bonds forming high molecular mass polymers. It is abundant during embryonic development and tissue remodeling, and also present as a soluble plasma protein.
Fibronectin consists of repeating modules forming domains that mediate interactions with itself, other matrix components (e.g., collagen, heparin), and cell surface receptors (e.g., integrins). It plays crucial roles in cell adhesion, migration, wound healing, blood coagulation, host defense, and metastasis. Elevated fibronectin expression has been observed in non-small cell lung carcinoma, enhancing tumorigenicity and resistance to apoptosis. The fibronectin gene undergoes alternative splicing, producing up to 20 transcript variants.
