Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of NMDAR2B only when phosphorylated at Ser1478.

Target Information

NMDAR2B is a member of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) class of ionotropic glutamate receptors. NMDA receptors (NMDAR) are involved in long-term potentiation, an activity-dependent increase in the efficiency of synaptic transmission that underlies certain types of memory and learning.
NMDARs play key roles in neuronal development and have been implicated in disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and ischemic neuronal cell death. Overexpression of the NR2B subunit is associated with enhanced learning and memory, while aged, memory-impaired animals often show deficiencies in NR2B expression.
Phosphorylation of Tyr1472 on NR2B may increase NMDAR expression at the synapse, contributing to synaptic plasticity. NMDAR2B forms a heterotrimer composed of NR1, NR2, and NR3 subunits. Dysfunction of NMDAR2B has been linked to epileptic encephalopathy and autosomal dominant 6-related mental retardation.
