Product Specific Information
Carrier-Free
- Reconstitution: Briefly centrifuge vial before opening to bring contents to the bottom. Reconstitute lyophilized recombinant human BMP-4 in 4 mM HCl containing 0.1% human serum albumin. Further dilutions should be made in low endotoxin medium or a buffered solution containing a carrier protein such as heat-inactivated FCS or tissue culture grade BSA.
- Storage: Store lyophilized preparation at ≤ -20°C, preferably desiccated. Upon reconstitution, apportion into working aliquots and store at ≤ -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family, which is part of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) superfamily. This superfamily includes large families of growth and differentiation factors. BMPs were originally identified by their ability to induce endochondral osteogenesis in vivo at extraskeletal sites. BMP-4 plays an important role in the initiation of endochondral bone formation in humans, and reduced expression has been associated with bone diseases such as Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva. Alternative splicing in the 5′ untranslated region of this gene yields three variants, all encoding an identical protein.
