Description:
The 1H6 monoclonal antibody reacts with canine CD34, also known as mucosialin. CD34 belongs to a protein family including endoglycan and podocalyxin. These single-pass transmembrane proteins have heavily glycosylated extracellular and N-terminal mucin domains. In canines, CD34 is expressed on hematopoietic progenitor cells in bone marrow, peripheral blood, hair follicles, and some mesenchymal stem cells, tumor cell lines, and vascular endothelia. CD34 serves as a marker for isolating cells capable of hematopoietic cell engraftment.

The 1H6 antibody has been reported to enrich CD34+ cells.

Target Information

CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein (111–115 kDa) expressed on many stem cell populations. It serves as a stem cell marker and may act as a receptor involved in endocytosis, adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic and progenitor cells. CD34 expression correlates with specific developmental states of hematopoietic cells and may mediate interactions with the bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells. It also functions as a scaffold for glycans binding to lectins and may participate in selectin ligand presentation. The intracellular domain is phosphorylated by protein kinase C, suggesting a role in signal transduction.
Diseases associated with CD34 dysfunction include dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
