Ataxin-2 binding protein 1은 RNA-binding protein에서 보존된 RNP motif를 포함하며, ataxin-2의 C-말단에 결합합니다. 이 단백질은 spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 (SCA2)의 병리학적 특이성에 기여할 수 있습니다.
Ataxin-2는 SCA2 유전자의 산물로, 가족성 신경퇴행성 질환을 유발합니다. 두 단백질 모두 trans-Golgi network에 위치하며, 다양한 splice variant가 존재합니다.
