Target Information

SLIT and NTRK-like family 1 (Slitrk1) belongs to a family of six homologous transmembrane proteins (Slitrk1–6) sharing two conserved leucine-rich repeat domains in the extracellular region and significant homology to Slit, an axonal growth-controlling protein. These proteins also show homology to trk neurotrophin receptors in their intracellular domains.
Expression of Slitrk proteins is restricted to neural and brain tumor tissues, with Slitrk1 mainly expressed in mature neurons. Overexpression of Slitrk1 induces unipolar neurites, whereas other family members inhibit neurite outgrowth, indicating a role in neurite regulation.
Variants of Slitrk1 have been suggested to be associated with Tourette’s Syndrome, though its involvement is considered minor.
