Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 성상교세포(astrocyte)와 특정 astroglia에서 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포 및 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포 역시 GFAP을 강하게 발현하며, GFAP 항체는 astrocyte 세포의 표지자로 널리 활용됩니다.
다양한 뇌종양에서 GFAP이 강하게 발현되며, 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 타액선 종양세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP은 발달 과정에서 astrocyte를 다른 교세포와 구별하는 데 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 성상교세포 관련 질환)를 유발합니다. 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 다양한 isoform이 생성됩니다.
