Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속합니다. GFAP는 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 특정 astroglia, 말초신경계의 ganglia 위성세포와 비수초성 Schwann 세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포에서도 높은 발현을 보입니다. GFAP 항체는 astrocytic 세포의 표지자로 유용하며, 다양한 뇌종양에서 GFAP의 과발현이 관찰됩니다. 이 단백질은 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocyte를 다른 glial 세포와 구별하는 마커로 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease를 유발하며, 이는 중추신경계 astrocyte의 희귀 질환입니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 아이소폼이 존재합니다.
