Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속합니다. GFAP는 중추신경계의 성상세포 및 특정 astroglia, 말초신경계의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포에서도 GFAP가 강하게 발현되며, astrocytic cell의 마커로 널리 사용됩니다. 다양한 뇌종양에서 GFAP가 과발현되며, 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 타액선 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocyte를 다른 glial cell과 구분하는 데 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 성상세포 질환)를 유발합니다. GFAP 유전자는 alternative splicing을 통해 여러 isoform을 생성합니다.
