Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 특정 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 ganglia 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포 역시 GFAP를 강하게 발현하며, GFAP 항체는 astrocytic 세포의 표지자로 유용합니다. 다양한 뇌종양 및 일부 비신경계 조직에서도 GFAP가 발현되며, astrocyte와 다른 glial 세포를 구분하는 데 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 변이는 Alexander disease를 유발하며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 isoform이 생성됩니다.
